Accra, Ghana, October 31, 2026: The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP), through its Department of Gender, in collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), has trained regional facilitators to engage men and boys in promoting gender equality and challenging harmful social and cultural norms.
The Training of Trainers (ToT) workshop focused on the National Framework and Toolkit for Engaging Men and Boys on Gender Equality, equipping participants with the knowledge and practical skills to use the resource in their respective regions and communities.
The initiative responds to persistent gender inequalities, gender-based violence, discriminatory social norms and harmful practices affecting women and girls in Ghana.
It seeks to strengthen the involvement of men and boys as partners in challenging harmful gender stereotypes, promoting positive gender norms and addressing unequal power relations within households, communities and society.
During the workshop, participants were introduced to the National Framework and Toolkit and explored practical approaches to engaging men and boys in preventing gender-based violence, addressing harmful practices and supporting the rights and empowerment of women and girls.
The sessions combined presentations, group discussions, practical activities and exercises, with particular attention to challenging harmful perceptions of masculinity and encouraging men and boys to take an active role in advancing gender equality.
The training is expected to strengthen participants' capacity to deliver gender equality programmes and facilitate further training for other stakeholders and community groups, extending the application of the National Framework and Toolkit across the country.
