Accra, Ghana, October 11, 2026:The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has met Norman Harold, husband of Nana Akua Addo, following his discharge from hospital, as the Ministry continues its engagement with the family in a case involving allegations of abuse.
According to a statement published by the Ministry, Mr Harold was unavailable during an earlier visit by the Minister because he was receiving medical care.
The latest meeting focused on the safety and welfare of the family, particularly the children, and the need to ensure that they have a safe and stable environment.
Children’s safety remains a priority
Dr Lartey stressed that the children's welfare must remain central as the Ministry and other relevant institutions respond to the situation.
She highlighted the importance of psychosocial support and social welfare services to protect the emotional wellbeing of the children and other family members.
The Ministry also said social welfare officers would be involved in monitoring the children's welfare and helping to safeguard their safety and best interests.
The statement did not provide further details about the proposed monitoring arrangements or the specific support services to be provided.
Ministry to work with police as investigation continues
The Ministry said it would continue working with the Police and other relevant institutions to support the family's welfare while the police investigation proceeds.
The engagement brings together two important aspects of responding to alleged domestic abuse: protecting the welfare of family members, particularly children, and allowing the appropriate authorities to investigate the allegations.
The outcome of the police investigation has not been provided in the Ministry's statement.
For children affected by alleged abuse or conflict within the home, safeguarding involves more than immediate physical safety. Their emotional wellbeing, stability and access to appropriate support also require attention.
As the case progresses, the implementation of the promised social welfare support and the protection of the children's best interests will remain important areas to follow.
