Accra, Ghana, October 21, 2026: The Ghana Police Service has forwarded the investigation docket in the alleged rape case involving the headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School, Zakaria Abdulai, also known as Paapaa, to the Attorney-General’s Office for study and advice.
In a press release dated 16 October 2026, the Ashanti South Regional Police Command said its Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) in Bekwai had completed the necessary investigative processes and submitted the docket for review.
The development follows a complaint lodged by a 20-year-old Form Two student at the Obuasi DOVVSU on 4 August 2026. The student was accompanied by her father.
What the police say happened
According to the police statement, the student alleged that the headmaster forcibly had sexual intercourse with her on 25 July 2026 at his official residence on the school’s campus.
The statement said the student had gone to an area near the headmaster’s residence where students dry their clothes to retrieve her clothing when he allegedly asked her to enter his residence to run an errand.
She alleged that, after she entered, the headmaster began touching her against her wishes. When she resisted, he allegedly dragged her into his bedroom and raped her.
The police statement further alleged that she was given GH¢100 after the incident to prevent her from speaking about it.
These details are allegations contained in the police statement and have not been established as findings of a court.
Police complete investigative processes
The Ashanti South Regional Police Command said investigators had undertaken several steps, including a medical examination, reconstruction of the scene, photography and the collection of witness statements.
The docket has now been forwarded to the Attorney-General’s Office for study and advice. The police statement does not indicate whether the Attorney-General has issued advice or whether charges have been filed.
The Regional Police Command assured the public that it was making every effort to establish the facts of the case.
What happens next?
The Attorney-General’s review is the next procedural step identified in the police statement. Any decision on further legal action will depend on the outcome of that review and the applicable legal process.
Forwarding an investigation docket does not, in itself, establish guilt or mean that a prosecution has been authorised. The allegations against the headmaster remain subject to due process.
The case also raises questions about student safety and the responsibility of educational institutions to protect students from sexual abuse and exploitation, particularly when allegations involve people in positions of authority.
For the student and her family, the next stage will be important in determining how the complaint proceeds through the justice system. The public will also need clear information about official decisions as the case progresses, while the privacy and dignity of the complainant must be respected.
Gender Lens Africa will continue to follow the case, including any official announcement from the Attorney-General’s Office on its review of the docket and any subsequent legal proceedings.
