Traders whose businesses were affected by the fire outbreak at Dansoman Market have received relief items and financial assistance to support their recovery and help them resume economic activities.
The support was provided through a collaboration between the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) and the Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West, Hon. Rev. Dr Kweku Addo.
The Chief Director of the Ministry, Dr Marian W. A. Kpakpah, represented the Sector Minister, Hon. Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, at the presentation held at the market.
The assistance included industrial sewing machines, cash support and other essential equipment intended to help affected traders rebuild their businesses.
Ministry reaffirms commitment to recovery support
The intervention follows an earlier visit by the Gender Minister to the market, where she expressed sympathy for the affected traders and engaged them on their recovery needs.
During that visit, the Minister indicated the Ministry’s readiness to work with relevant agencies to coordinate relief efforts and provide psychosocial support to those affected by the fire.
Speaking at the presentation, Dr Kpakpah emphasised the role of social protection in helping individuals and households recover from unexpected shocks and rebuild their livelihoods.
She said restoring the economic stability of affected traders required collective effort and stressed the importance of ensuring that vulnerable people were not left behind during difficult periods.
MP highlights support for affected traders
Hon. Rev. Dr Kweku Addo said the assistance was intended to help the affected traders, particularly women, rebuild their businesses and recover from the losses suffered in the fire.
He expressed hope that the items would ease some of the difficulties facing the traders as they worked towards resuming their economic activities.
The support is expected to provide a starting point for the affected traders to restore their businesses. However, the extent of their recovery will depend on their individual losses and the resources available to sustain their operations.
The Ministry’s intervention forms part of efforts to support affected individuals and households in rebuilding their livelihoods following unexpected emergencies. what is the beat
